What Lip Filler Actually Does

Lip filler is a gel-like injectable, typically made from hyaluronic acid, that adds volume, corrects asymmetries, and helps create a fuller, more defined shape. Hyaluronic acid works by drawing in and binding water, which is part of why results look plump and hydrated rather than just "bigger." Pairing a Lip Flip with Filler

Volume and amount are only part of the equation — movement matters just as much, which is why so many patients pair their filler with a lip flip. A lip flip uses a small amount of neuromodulator around the upper lip so it relaxes and rolls out slightly when you smile. On its own, it doesn't change the size of the lip at all.

Layer filler on top of that, and the two start working together: the flip enhances the curve and roll of the lip border, while the filler builds the shape and fullness underneath it. The result is a lip that looks soft and full rather than stiff or "pushed out," which is often what happens when volume is added without any attention to how the lip actually moves.
