Best Skincare Routine for Acne-Prone Skin

Acne-prone skin needs a routine that does two things at once: clear out the congestion, oil, and bacteria that cause breakouts, and calm the inflammation that makes acne worse and leaves marks behind. Too many acne routines lean hard into the first part and completely ignore the second, which is why so many people end up with skin that's "clear" but red, irritated, and barrier-compromised. Here's how we build a routine that does both, using products formulated specifically to work together.

Step 1: Cleanse With Exfoliating Power

Start with our Polished Cleanser, a 10% glycolic acid formula that gently sloughs away dead skin cells, unclogs pores, and helps prevent the buildup that leads to breakouts — without stripping the skin. Because it's non-stripping and pH-balanced, it supports barrier health instead of working against it, which matters more than people realize when it comes to acne. A damaged barrier actually makes acne-prone skin more reactive and more prone to breakouts, not less.

Step 2: Tone to Rebalance

After cleansing, follow with Mist Me Toner. Cleansers and hard tap water can throw off your skin's natural pH, and when that balance is disrupted it can lead to dryness, irritation, and — importantly for acne-prone skin — the spread of bacteria. Mist Me contains witch hazel to refine pore size and reduce surface oil, along with green and white tea and chamomile to calm and protect the skin barrier. Toning resets your skin so the products that follow can actually absorb and work more effectively.

Step 3: Treat With Pro-Heal Serum

This is the step most acne routines are missing. Our Pro-Heal Serum is built for inflammatory skin conditions, and acne is fundamentally an inflammatory, bacterial condition. Pro-Heal contains chlorophyll for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, willow bark to help reduce acne and calm stressed skin, and a gentle, tolerable dose of vitamin C to brighten and support collagen. By addressing inflammation directly, the skin can heal faster, become more resilient, and respond better to your other acne treatments over time.

Step 4: Exfoliate a Few Nights a Week

Two to three nights a week, add our Daily Renewal Pads into the mix. Soaked in pharmaceutical-grade glycolic acid and acne-fighting salicylic acid, these pads accelerate the removal of dead skin cells and surface oil without over-drying — exactly the kind of targeted exfoliation acne-prone skin benefits from, without overdoing it on the nights you're already using other actives.

Step 5: Hydrate — Yes, Even Oily Skin Needs It

Skipping moisturizer is one of the biggest mistakes people with acne-prone skin make. When skin is dehydrated, it often overproduces oil to compensate, which can make breakouts worse. Our HydraSheer Moisturizer is oil-free and lightweight, formulated with aloe vera, squalane, and liposome-encapsulated antioxidants to hydrate without clogging pores. It's specifically designed for normal to oily and acne-prone skin types that want thorough hydration without heaviness.

Step 6: Protect

Always finish your morning routine with sunscreen, especially if you're using exfoliating acids or treating post-acne marks — unprotected sun exposure can deepen discoloration and undo your progress.
A Realistic Routine, Morning and Night

AM: Polished Cleanser → Mist Me Toner → Pro-Heal Serum → HydraSheer Moisturizer → SPF
PM: Polished Cleanser → Mist Me Toner → Pro-Heal Serum → HydraSheer Moisturizer (swap in Daily Renewal Pads 2–3x/week in place of Pro-Heal)

The Bottom Line
Clearing acne-prone skin isn't just about drying out breakouts — it's about calming inflammation, keeping pores clear, and supporting the skin barrier all at the same time. This routine, built around Polished Cleanser, Mist Me Toner, Pro-Heal Serum, Daily Renewal Pads, and HydraSheer Moisturizer, is designed to do exactly that.
