How chemical peels work

Skincare that gives results should be the foundation of your beauty regimen. Cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing can improve your skin’s appearance and keep it looking healthy and youthful. However, for those with dull skin, acne scars, sunspots, and hyperpigmentation, more targeted treatments may be required. Chemical peels are highly effective cosmetic skin treatments that remove dead skin to reveal a new healthy layer which can in turn, visually improve the appearance of the skin.

What Exactly Do Chemical Peels Do?

The epidermis, which is the outer surface of our skin, is made up of layers of epidermal cells. These cells help to protect the more sensitive tissues underneath. The outer layer of our skin is constantly exposed to pollution, dirt, and UV rays which can all dull, dry, discolor, and ultimately age the appearance of the skin. Over time, the skin sheds these cells as part of its natural exfoliation process, but often times this process can occur unevenly, causing blemishes on the face. Also, the melanocytes (melanin-producing cells) will produce dark spots on the skin in a protective response to these environmental threats, such as sun damage. Chemical peels are used to remove the dead skin cells in a more thorough and efficient manner, to reveal a new layer of untouched skin that is more youthful, even, and vibrant. Also, depending on the components in the peel, you can achieve a much brighter and more even complexion.

The antioxidants are applied as a solution to the skin, where it remains for a set amount of time. It is then removed or you are instructed to wash your face that evening, and then over the period of approximately one week, the outer layers of old, dehydrated or acne-prone skin peel off. Usually, the first day you have glowy, taut skin, and the peeling begins on day 2.

TYPES OF CHEMICAL PEELS

At Vitality Aesthetic, we offer some of the most effective types of chemical peels, and each has their own unique benefits. They vary from very gentle to deeper peels.

Our peels are fully customizable, with special blends of retinoic acid, mandelic acid, salicylic acid, trichloroacetic acid, phenol, vitamin C, and minerals. The special solutions remove the damaged layers of the skin and encourages new skin cell growth. Once the skin has peeled, the new skin is smoother and brighter than before. Peels ideal for the face, neck, chest and hands, although almost all areas of the body can be treated. Some customized blends are more suited to acne-prone skin or darker skin types. It’s important to note that we offer peels that are safe and effective for all skin types, no matter how dark or light your natural skin tone is.

Post-treatment, one can look forward to a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, smoother skin, even skin tone, reduced acne scarring, and reduced sun damage.

After your treatment, you may be recommended peel pads for continued treatment of stubborn dark spots. Our peel pads use a blend of glutathione, kojic acid, azaleic acid, hydroquinone, vitamin C, and minerals to lift pigment from the skin.

Peels can build collagen and elastin which are key components of youthful, strong skin.

Our peels effectively reduce hyper-pigmentation, melasma, acne scarring, and sun damage. They are ideal for those who want to refine the appearance of the skin by reducing pore size and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
